We had begun to "backslide", with no church we were comfortable in. Joe was drinking beer again, and had attended a "going away" party for one of the men at work. Someone kept filling his glass up, without him noticing, and before he knew it - he was feeling no pain. Far off in the distance, he heard one of the men say, "Would you believe it...he used to be a priest?!" Which wasn't the case (naturally)...but the Bible does say that we are kings and priests. He knew he wasn't living up to the "call" that was on his life.
That same evening, I had finally given in to talk with a neighbor, who lived right next door to us. She talked about the Lord all the time and was very kind to our family. After awhile I began going to church with her. It was an independent church. We found out that the house we were renting belonged to the pastor of that church; he owned a lot of property in the Cloverdale part of Surrey.
We were invited to a lot of family gatherings and then we began attending their Sunday meetings. They got us back into the "Word", and it was good. Joe went forward at an altar call and rededicated himself to the Lord. Both of us went up front, from time to time...the Spirit was really moving at that church.
Joey had wanted to show us his daughter, so they all came down in his station wagon. We didn't feel it was right to put them up in our house, because they weren't married - so we tried to explain that to them...they never did understand. They stayed in a large tent that we had in the backyard. We all visited and they ate with us; I watched Elizabeth one day, so they could do some things while they were down here. Years later we found out that they were "crushed" because they weren't allowed to sleep together in our house...I don't think they understand, to this day.
The house we rented and adjoining land, had been sold - so we had to look for something else; moving again.
